MOSAIC is a
geodemographic classification that describes Australia’s
neighbourhoods by allocating them into 41 Types, within 9 Groups, at a
level of just 20 households. In order to be able to do this, Pacific
Micromarketing has developed a new level of micromarketing geography for
Australia called MOSAIC Micro Segments. The challenge of going
below the Census Collector District (CCD) level of 180 households for
Australian marketing analysis has now been met.
In June 2000,
MOSAIC underwent an inter-Census update – the first of its kind for an
Australian geodemographic classification. Micro Segment geography was
refined and some neighbourhoods were re-assigned to a MOSAIC Type based
on the changes identified using updated information. New population,
household and adults counts have been introduced that identify areas of
decline and growth, changes in household structure, housing and
population migration.
